Photographing from Farm to Fork

To get to the root of food, we must go to the source and there’s no better inspiration to be found than at Kai Kai Farm, one of the most beautiful farms in South Florida.

This immersive, intensive workshop is all about inspiration. We’re going to be surrounded by nature, by farmers and by beautiful light, giving us the opportunity to free ourselves from as many distractions as possible.

The day begins with a tour the farm and the chance to photograph the vegetables on the vine while learning the magical story of Kai Kai.

From there, we will learn about lighting, aperture and composition as it specifically relates to food photography. We'll transition into learning about propping and beginning styling.

We'll photograph food from Kai Kai, prepared by a local chef. After a hands-on styling session, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and food editor Liz Balmaseda will speak to us about finding our voice. Liz transcends medium and goes to the heart of the story - this powerful luncheon is one of the many highlights of the day.

Our study concludes at 4 p.m. and a short break is offered to wander the farm, go into Stuart for a quick coffee break or visit the beach or simply network with your fellow participants.

Class resumes at 5 p.m. in the middle of the farm where a styled scene has been prepared for you by Desiree Dawn Events. There you will have the chance to photograph a candlight dinner under a nearly full-moon. A portfolio building opportunity an a magical scne awaits. Desiree Dawn Events is one of the foremost wedding planning studios in South Florida and this scene will be over the top!

Then, you will enjoy dinner prepared by one of the best chefs in the tri-counties with superbly matched wines by Sommerlie Mariya Kovacheva of Pernod-Ricard. Linger long under the moon.

The class is geared for the DSLR photographer but yes, you can attend if you only have a camera phone. Please understand how your camera works, whatever one you decide to bring. Also - please bring something to take notes. Lunch and dinner will be served.

No refunds will be offered. Please make absolutely certain you can attend before signing up.
